Dr. Martens at Urban City Styles

Where does Dr. Martens come from?

In 1947 Klaus Märtens and Herbert Funck developed a boot with an air-cushioned rubber sole in Seeshaupt, Germany. In 1959 the British maker R. Griggs bought the rights, renamed the brand Dr. Martens and added the yellow stitching. The eight-eyelet 1460 launched on 1 April 1960 and the 1461 followed in 1961. Skinheads, punks and the grunge scene later made the boots an icon.
